EGS DC Celebrates the House Introduction of the Geo POWER Act
The Enhanced Geothermal Systems Deployment Coalition (EGS DC) celebrates the news of the House introduction of the Geothermal Power Opportunity with Expanded Regions (Geo POWER) Act (H.R. 8437) led by Reps. Nick Begich (R-AK) and Susie Lee (D-NV). EGS DC is grateful for their leadership in advancing bipartisan, bicameral solutions to expand next-generation geothermal energy and strengthen America’s energy leadership.
This legislation aims to accelerate the deployment of next-generation geothermal projects across the U.S. by establishing a new milestone-based demonstration program at the Department of Energy (DOE). The program would support innovative geothermal projects in regions that currently lack access to geothermal electricity, helping expand deployment beyond traditional resource areas.
This follows the bipartisan introduction of the Senate companion in March 2026 by Sens. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) and Steve Daines (R-MT). EGS DC previously stated:
"EGS DC applauds the leadership of Senators Hickenlooper and Daines in introducing the Geo POWER Act and continuing the bipartisan momentum behind next-generation geothermal energy. Commercial-scale deployment is a critical next step to proving how enhanced geothermal systems can scale to provide reliable, firm power and help meet America's rapidly growing electricity demand. EGS DC looks forward to working with Senators Hickenlooper and Daines to advance this legislation and continue building bipartisan support for common-sense energy policy to help unlock the potential of enhanced geothermal systems."
This week has seen a series of bipartisan geothermal developments in Congress, including the House passage of the Harnessing Energy At Thermal Sources (HEATS) Act (H.R. 5587), Senate introduction of the Geothermal Ombudsman for National Deployment and Optimal Reviews Act (S. 4383) by Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and Jim Risch (R-ID), and House Natural Resources Committee advancement of Rep. Russ Fulcher's (R-ID) Committing Leases for Energy Access Now (CLEAN) Act (H.R. 1687).
