Our Focus

The Enhanced Geothermal Systems Deployment Coalition (EGS DC) exists to close the gap between promise and policy. Our mission is to advocate for federal programs and legislation that accelerate the deployment of enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) and position it as a foundational solution for America’s future energy mix.

We are focused on ensuring EGS plays a central role in powering a growing economy while maintaining energy affordability, strengthening grid reliability, and advancing U.S. energy leadership.

Most importantly, EGS DC aims to translate the growing political and commercial momentum behind EGS into durable, high-impact policies that accelerate deployment. While recent years have brought increased attention and supportive legislative proposals, meaningful policy changes and federal funding opportunities for commercially deployable EGS projects remain limited. EGS DC was established to help advance the policies needed to bring EGS to scale and meet today’s growing power demand.

What is EGS?

Enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) development leverages unconventional oil and gas technology to deliver around-the-clock clean power from hot rock. With horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing, EGS operators can unlock gigawatts (GW) of geothermal energy in previously inaccessible locations, creating the subsurface conditions needed for economic electricity production.

How it works:

Wells are drilled more than 8,000 feet vertically and over 5,000 feet horizontally. The surrounding rock is then fractured, providing predictable pathways for fluid flow. Water travels through these hot fractures, increases in temperature, and returns to the surface hot enough to vaporize working fluid that turns a turbine to generate electricity.

Who We Are

EGS DC brings together stakeholders and companies across the energy supply and demand value chain, with a shared interest in launching EGS commercial-scale projects to provide firm, clean power. EGS DC members include Fervo Energy, Devon Energy, Vallourec, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, NVIDIA, SLB, Baker Hughes, PG&E, and Turboden.

Meet Our Founders

Fervo Energy

Fervo Energy is a leading U.S.-based developer of next-generation geothermal projects using EGS to deliver reliable, 24/7 carbon-free electricity. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Houston, Fervo applies advanced drilling, hydraulic fracturing, and subsurface analytics to expand access to geothermal resources and enable scalable development nationwide.

Fervo has successfully demonstrated commercial-scale EGS through its Project Red facility in Nevada and is advancing major new developments, including the 500-megawatt Cape Station project in Utah and the planned Project Blanford in Utah, where recent drilling confirmed ultra-high geothermal resource temperatures exceeding 555°F. Through these projects, Fervo is helping establish geothermal as a dependable, affordable energy source capable of supporting growing electricity demand and strengthening America’s domestic energy future.

Devon Energy

Devon Energy is a leading U.S. oil and gas producer with decades of expertise in advanced drilling, well completion, and subsurface engineering. Devon has pioneered technologies such as horizontal drilling and multi-stage hydraulic fracturing—capabilities that are directly enabling the commercialization of EGS.

Devon is actively supporting the growth of next-generation geothermal through strategic investment and partnership with Fervo Energy. Devon’s technical expertise and innovation in drilling and reservoir development are helping adapt proven oil and gas technologies to unlock scalable geothermal energy. Through this leadership and collaboration, Devon is playing a key role in accelerating geothermal as a reliable, 24/7 domestic energy source and strengthening America’s long-term energy security.
